RE: Are there any American made trailer tires?

I had a blow out on a trip last year and We had only had our puma for about 17 month's. It is on the heavy side gvwr 9520#. The original brand tires were taskmaster and i stopped at a small tire store and bought a spare while i was on the road. Getting ready for a camping trip in April i noticed the tire mated to the one that blew out had a 1.5" split in it. I called our Michelin tire rep at work and he advised me on a set of Carlisle ST225/75d15 Sport Trail tires that are made here in S.C. If I had more time i would have called my dealer first but i only had 4 days until we were to leave camping. When we returned from camping i called my dealer and emailed him pictures of the bad tire and discovered the valve stems were rotten and cracking. He sent the pictures on to Puma and all the dot numbers from the tires and a week later my dealer called and Puma had sent 5 new tires and wheels for my camper and yes they are made a little different from the original but the same name. I am still running the Carlsile tires and put the new set in my building for the time being.

RE: Best tow vehicle - family of five

There are PLENTY of Suburbans, Tahoe's and Expeditions on the market for a VERY reasonable price. The fuel mileage is not the greatest but if you are to purchase one on the cheap or find a "take over payments" vehicle, you can live with the mpg, and have a capable TV.
With high gas prices you can get great deals on used Suburbans, Expeditions, etc.

RE: 4 WD versus AWD

With 4wd you have a real transfer case, and 4 LO - I have used 4 LO many times on very steep grades pulling trailers out, and pulling boats up the ramp.
Some AWD vehicles do have a setting for 4Lo
Our old 1990 Jeep Cherokee had 5 settings: 2WD, 4 All Time, 4Part time(same as 4 Hi), Neutral, and 4 Lo
Our Sons 1999 Grand Cherokee Has 3 settings: 4 All Time, Neutral, and 4 Lo

RE: Maxxis tires might be good the the company is a joke

Ok i will probably get burned. I bought a set of carlisle ST 225-75d-15
bias ply tires load range d. I don't know if it is true but he said they are made in South Carolina. I put 4 new on our puma after our blow outs and i really like the tires. Try to buy a set of trailer tires made in the USA.

RE: New 4.4L Diesel for F150

It probably won't be cheaper to operate if you have the diesel only to drive or pull a light trailer. I figured out that it cost me 38 cents/mile to tow with the Cummins on our trip to the beach, and our old suburban would cost 75 cents/mile if we still had it to tow. I showed I got the numbers in this post on a different thread

RE: Gas or diesel in 2008?

the gas mileage towing our 10,000# TT with our old 454 Suburban Gasser was around 4mpg on our trip to the beach, here, regular is about $3.00 a gallon at the station where we fill up-that equals 75 cents/mile. the trip was about 260 miles, so that would have been $195 in fuel with the Burban
Diesel is (last time I checked) $3.80 at the station where we fill up and the Cummins gets about 10mpg when towing (the same trailer) to the beach which equals 38 cents/mile. 260 mile trip equals just under $99 in fuel with the Cummins
I probably could have slowed down a little bit with the Cummins and got better MPG, but was anxious to get there :) the interstate we travel on to the beach is I-26 and there are a number of large hills. On these hills, the Gasser struggled with the trailer, while the Diesel barely noticed them. For Larger, heavier trailers, diesel is the way to go

RE: What is this guy thinking?

I agree with Eurohazard, that looks more like a Hyundai
I guarantee that if you ask him about it he would say something like "The guy at the dealership said I could tow it with no problems"

RE: New Sequoia TV

May have a good Towing Capacity, but remember it doesn't take much to go over payload capacity, just like most 1/2 ton SUVs

RE: Kobalt Tools 500 from Atlanta Motor Speedway

I know all about the "unwritten rules" and all that. Kyle Busch is a classless, talented, but classless no respect driver who could have very well drug himself and DJ into the wall with his antics. He has been a reckless driver since his start and is quite famous for his antics hence the nickname "rowdy". He was lucky today, next time could be different. I agree DJ could have given more room, but again if Busch would have just stayed put he still would have easily won the race. This was the last lap folks not 10 to go.
Nearly Wrecked Gordon Early on in the 500
Gordon had a run on Busch and He was blocked, luckily there wasn't a huge pile up

RE: Tahoe or Yukon? Who has them and what do you tow?

I'd probably go for the Suburban/Yukon XL 1/2 ton would probably do
most will tell you that you need so much wheelbase in your truck/SUV to tow so many feet of Trailer.......im sure someone has exact numbers

RE: equal-i-zer questions

If the bars are a LITTLE more than you need, thats ok
but if the bars are WAY more than you need-that can cause problems
I say stick with 1000 as long as you don't put too much weight in the front

RE: Yukon Denali XL as a TV?

Sounds like thew Denali will do it
however, if you want more capacity you might want to consider a 3/4 ton Yukon XL

RE: Tundra out "pulls" all the others?

I take offense to that, the Cummins would eat the "Iforce" as a snack on a hill (mine would do it on flat ground empty) and my 2005 hasn't had one recall, no tailgate problems, no torque converter or transmission issues, no vibrations at certain speeds and has had one "flash" early on just so the darn horn would sound if I open the door while in reverse (I think) :)
Now, anybody with a newer diesel has a great engine surrounded by a piece of junk trunk. :)
Cummins vs. I-force...........Ill keep my Cummins
Now the I-Force 5.7 is being compared to the Cummins. That's flattering indeed :)
Nah I never compared them, I Just said I would rather have a Cummins
the Tundra still has a long way to go before it is competitive to 3/4 ton diesels
